Kazi Nazrul Islam was a patriot, poet, composer, writer,
political figure. He was born on the 25th May 1898 at Churulia in the
district of Burdwan, West Bengal, India. The second of three sons and
one daughter, Nazrul lost his father Kazi Fakir Ahmed in 1980 when he
was only nine year old. Nazrul's nickname was "Dukhu" (sorrow) Mia, a
name that aptly reflects the hardships and misery of his early years.
In 1917 Kazi Nazrul Islam joined the Indian Army. For almost three years, up to March-April 1920, Nazrul served in the army and was promoted to the rank of Battalion Quarter Master Havildar. Later he assailed the British Raj in India and preached revolution through his poetic works, such as "Bidrohi" ("The Rebel") and "Bhangar Gaan" ("The Song of Destruction"), as well as his publication "Dhumketu" ("The Comet"). Nazrul was an emotional soul, but his emotion was unstable and volatile. Those who came in personal contact with him were moved by his irresistible enthusiasm and sincerity.
But his literary output falls far short of his merit, except the early poems in Agnibina . After Agnibina his best known books of poems and songs are Dolonchampa(1923), Biser Bansi (The poisonous flute, 1924), Bhangar Gan (Songs of break-up, 1924), Puber Haoya (The east wind 1925) and Bulbul (1928). Nazrul's writings explore themes such as love, freedom, and revolution; he opposed all bigotry, including religious and gender.
In 1942 he was admitted to a mental asylum. On June 30 , 1962 his wife Pramila died and Nazrul remained in intensive medical care.In 1972, the newly independent nation of Bangladesh obtained permission from the Government of India to bring Nazrul to live in Dhaka and accorded him honorary citizenship. The rebel poet Kazi Nazrul Islam was crowned in 1972 as the national poet of Bangladesh. The poet died at Dhaka, capital of Bangladesh . Bangla Academy has published collected works of the poet to celebrate the poets birth centenary in the year(1999).

Shesher Kabita (Bengali: শেষের কবিতা) is a novel by Rabindranath Tagore, widely considered a landmark in Bengali literature. The novel was serialised in 1928, from Bhadro to Choitro in the magazine Probashi, and was published in book form the following year. It has been translated into English as The Last Poem (translator Anandita Mukhopadhyay) and Farewell song (translator Radha Chakravarty).
The novel recounts the love story of Amit Ray (pronounced "amito rAy"), a barrister educated at Oxford, whose virulent intellectualism reveals itself in its opposition to all forms of tradition. He meets Labannya in a car accident and the romance builds up in the misty hills of Shillong. Though the novel is primarily set in Shillong, it was written when Rabindranath was in Bangalore. Amito's iconoclastism meets Labannya's sincere simplicity through a series of dialogues and poems that they write for each other.
The novel also contains a self-reference of significance in Bangla literature. By the late 1920s, more than a decade after his Nobel Prize, Tagore had become a towering presence in Bengal, and was facing criticism:
